New York, NY (December 5, 2006) – Celebrity Hair Stylist Garren opened the doors to his thoroughly modern, elegant and intimate 2,000 square foot salon in the Atrium of New York’s landmark Sherry-Netherland Hotel, located at
Redefining Garren’s signature look of timeless elegance in a thoroughly modern way, the new GARREN New York salon was designed in conjunction with renowned architect, Christopher Barriscale. Garren worked hand in hand with Barriscale to transform his vision into reality. The sleek and serene, white space is a timeless blend of luxurious materials and crisp details with a nod to mid-century modern design.
With its platinum Travertine floors, Rosewood cabinetry and walls of white waxed plaster, lacquer and scored white wood, the salon is separated into a series of intimate work spaces by dramatic, floor-to-ceiling, custom crafted screens in burnished bronze from Barriscale Designs.
For the main styling salon, Garren commissioned Italian crystal maker Vistosi’s Angelo Mangiarotti to create a shimmering wall of dangling, interlocking crystals. This dramatic installation is illuminated by a white Barrisol fabric ceiling which glows against the room’s tall mirrored walls.
Accents of lime, orange, shrimp, frog green and soft metallics appear in the furniture, textiles and finishing touches. From signature green roses, to the orange Mohair sofa from Vladmir Kagan, to sumptuous drapes of cashmere and golden metal mesh, to the silver matting by designer Sandy Chilewich, luxury abounds.
The striking beauty of the space is further enhanced by its flattering, luminous white lighting which Garren himself designed. He honed his lighting skills from decades of work alongside world-leading photographers Steven Meisel, Irving Penn, Michael Thompson and Steven Klein to name a few.
For the styling and color stations, Garren selected leather Saarinen chairs by Knoll. White leather chairs grace the styling salon, while frog green leather is used in the hair color area. The salon also features two state of the art shampoo bays, complete with corresponding Shiatsu chairs by Takara Belmont.
The salon robes were designed by long time friend and fashion designer Anna Sui. Women’s robes feature Garren’s signature Ocelot print, while the men’s robes are a rich, masculine gray.
A true reflection of Garren’s forever evolving, trendsetting aesthetic, the new GARREN New York salon was designed to cater to his exclusive client roster, which includes magazine editors, leading photographers, designers, celebrities, supermodels and socialites. “My new salon at The Sherry-Netherland is designed to provide our clients with the ultimate in comfort, privacy, luxury and convenience,”says Garren.
The new GARREN New York Salon at The Sherry-Netherland serves as a creative lab for Garren’s team of expert stylists and as a showcase for his namesake product collection. The GARREN New York team includes top hairstylists, Thom Priano,
The GARREN New York Hair Care Collection, which features 11 delicate, performance-based products with vitamins, proteins and natural plant extracts to cleanse, condition, style and fragrance the hair, is available exclusively at the new salon.
